The Owners say...
"La Touffagne is a small farmhouse with 360 degrees of glorious un-interrupted country views with magnificent sunsets over the bastide village of Tournon. Its history dates back to 1820. The house was part of the small commune, making bread for the surrounding cottages and there is evidence of grapevines still remaining in the neighbouring hedgerows and crushed shells in the cellar to suggest that wine was “set” on the premises. We are retired architect and designers so the farmhouse has an airy/light feel which we feel reflects the provençal touch which makes it all the more endearing."
La Touffagne is approached along its own tarmac drive. and there is ample parking space for two or three vehicles beside the house.
Entering the house through double doors, Guests will be in the light and airy Kitchen which has a good selection of fitted units, and includes a gas hob and electric oven, microwave oven, coffee machine and dishwasher. A circular Dining table with 4 chairs is also in the room.
Leaving the kitchen up a small flight of steps, guests go into the spacious Sitting room.
Two large sofas face the impressive fireplace which has a wood burner in it, and also the television with DVD player in the corner beyond. With a high ceiling over much of the room, there is a great feeling of space, and carefully selected occasional furniture and a small selection of ornaments make the overall ambiance very homely and relaxing. The original house entrance is at the end of the Sitting room, and opens onto a large sunny balcony as seen in the picture at the head of the page with gorgeous views from its elevated position .
Leading up from the Sitting room, feature stone steps lead to a small mezzanine area over the rear of the Sitting room with comfortable seating: This in turn leads through to the Upstairs Twin ensuite bedroom, with storage cupboards and occasional furniture. The ensuite Shower room has basin and wc.
Downstairs again, the second en suite Bedroom is to the rear of the Kitchen, with a Double bed, storage and occasional furniture.
The en suite Shower room has a basin and wc.
Throughout La Touffagne care has been taken to blend the original and the modern, and the resulting high quality accommodation is a testament to the Owners' craft.
(Note - Whilst there is a ground floor en suite bedroom, access to the Sitting Room is up a small flight of steps, and there are steps down to the pool level also)
La Touffagne stands in 1ha (2.5 acres) of land which is managed carefully and allows guests plenty of space and freedom.
There are seating terraces on the east and west sides of the house, with the east facing shaded 'au vent' terrace immediately outside the Kitchen door. The Pool terrace and the large balcony are on the south side.
Spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed on the west terrace with the hill town of Tournon d'Agenais in full view.
Steps lead down the side of the house onto the Pool terrace, off which there is a covered area with the original bread oven still in situ, and this opens into a Utility and Store room with the Washing machine and a deep sink. There is poolside furniture including sunshades provided. A charcoal barbecue is available.
Measuring 9 x 4m, the Swimming Pool has an alarm system. There are Roman steps for easy access to the water, and the water purity is maintained with chlorine.

Tournon d'Agenais, just 4km away, is but one of a number of medieval hilltop towns in the area. All have their own charm, with timbered houses lining narrow streets that converge on a main square. With fortifications all around, there are generally spectacular views around the countryside, and charming bars, restaurants and other shops in the older parts of these towns.
Tournon d'Agenais has basic shopping for everyday needs, including a privately run small supermarket and a few restaurants, but for a larger supermarket Montaigu de Quercy is the nearest, and there is also a selection of restaurants and services there. Lauzerte is listed among 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' For the French hypermarket experience, there are large 'Leclerc' hypermarkets at Villeneuve sur Lot and Fumel.
Tournon d'Agenais is approximately half way along the road between two large towns on the River Lot, Villeneuve sur Lot and Cahors. Both have historical connenctions, with Roman activity and their own charm among the streets of medieval and younger buildings. Penne d'Agenais is also on this road, and has a very interesting silver domed Byzantine style church at its summit.
Within a few miles of La Touffagne you will be deep into the vineyards and wineries of the Cahors AOC, many of which are open for tasting and direct sales: Two that are near are Vin du Tsar near Thézac and the English run Domaine du Garinet near Le Boulvé. As you travel the countryside there are many different crops growing: besides the vines there are many hectares of sunflowers alongside more traditional farm crops, and vegetables, soft fruit orchards and nut groves will all be seen.
Many of these products can be bought from artisan producers at local markets which are held in larger villages and towns on most days of the week: Tournon d'Agenais has a Friday evening market during the summer, and Montaigu de Quercy is a Saturday morning market. A fuller list of these dates is under The Area above.
Much of this produce finds its way to local restaurants. and eating out is generally of a high standard and at a reasonable price. Some recommended restaurants are also included in The Area information.
The river Lot is a centre for anything water based including boat hire, river cruising and fishing. The nearest access to the river is at 'Port Penne' near Penne d'Agenais.
Travelling north of the river you will find two chateaux of note in spectacular scenery - Chateau de Bonaguil and Chateau Biron. Both have interesting histories and are worth a visit.

"A very pretty house with a very cool pool! Always seems to provide a very spectacular sunset over Tournon d'Agenais. We've enjoyed the tranquillity especially drinking on the terrace of an evening, made all the more fantastic by a partial eclipse of the moon on one evening. Hope to be back next year"
