La Tour is a lovingly restored ancient watch tower which was originally built at least 500 years ago - maybe more, and is in a commanding position overlooking the valley between Roquecor and Montaigu de Quercy, with a view of Roquecor as below.
With exposed stone and wooden beams throughout, La Tour has been laid out to create a spacious getaway for one or two people with access to the Owners swimming pool. Two private terraces, one south facing and the other north facing allows Guests to choose sun or shade as they wish, or there are numerous attractions locally including footpaths and quiet roads for exploration on four wheels, two wheels or on foot.
Good sized rooms throughout with thick stone walls offer guests comfort in the height of the summer, with a fan provided as well as electric radiators for either end of the season.
The main entrance leads into the Dining room, 5m x 5m, with a dining table and chairs, and sideboard with all items required for dining, Stairs lead up to the first floor, and a cupboard under houses the utility equipment,
Two steps up lead into the large well equipped kitchen with a U shaped run of units.
A breakfast bar with stool is carefully placed by a window overlooking the orchard outside.
A large window is convenient for passing things out to the shadier North terrace, where a gas barbecue is available for guests. This terrace is reached via the main entrance, and up some steps.
Kitchen equipment includes Hob and Oven, Microwave, Fridge and Freezer and a Washing Machine.
Returning to the Dining room, two steps lead down to the spacious bedroom with double bed and ensuite shower room and wc. Double doors lead onto a ground floor terrace with table and chairs.
French doors in the bedroom lead out to a small ground floor terrace - ideal for morning coffee and breakfast.
Upstairs is the Sitting room, again 5m x 5m, with two armchairs and a sofa, and plenty of books and other items for guests to enjoy.
Please note there is no television at La Tour, but internet wifi is available, but note that the 1m thick stone walls may impede signal towards the rear of the house and on the north terrace,
French doors and steps down open onto the second large terrace.
The south facing First floor terrace is a sun worshippers delight, facing fully south. With the view over Roquecor to the south west, it also makes for great sunset viewing as the day cools.
Besides the South (pictured above) and North (pictured below) terraces immediately outside the house, the 9x5m swimming pool is privately situated down a couple of terraces of the Owner's sloping garden. Irregularly shaped, the pool has a hard sliding cover which minimizes heat loss. Sun loungers and sunshades are provided for guests to use at the pool which, as with the rest of the large garden, enjoys a pleasant aspect on a south and west facing slope.
There is a large garden and orchard which are very well kept, and have a very pleasant relaxed feel.
Around La Tour are a number of pleasant walks for guests to enjoy: Details are available for Guests, and there are a good quantity of books, games and other pastimes in La Tour.
The historic village of Roquecor is about 2km away, which now has a choice of 4 restaurants and a small general shop, as well as a lively market on Sunday morning. There are spectacular views from the ancient ramparts, and 'Le Roc de Nobis' has a curious tale attached to it which guests may be interested to find out more about.
Much village life revolves around Le Cafe du Centre, which runs regular themed nights, and is popular with locals, expats and visitors alike.

Around the area
The area around La Tour is rich in history, with many medieval villages with distinct character and attractions to visit. Many occupy historic hillfort positions, and enjoy spectacular views across the Quercy countryside from which you can often see the long straight roads associated with Roman activity. Pujols and Lauzerte are both listed among 'Les Plus Beaux Villages De France'.
There is a wide choice of restaurants locally with several in Montaigu de Quercy and others dotted around the countryside: Please see 'Area' information at the top of this page where Guest recommendations are shared. An added bonus is that some restaurants list only locally produced wines, with the heart of the Cahors AOC wine producing area a short drive away to the north along the River Lot.
Many of the wineries are open for tasting and direct sales, and the daily markets which are somewhere near on every day of the week (see Area information) make for a great availability of the finest and freshest food and drink, either ready to eat or for you to prepare yourself.
Everyday needs can be catered for at Montaigu de Quercy, about 5km away, or for larger shops, Montayral and Villeneuve-sur-Lot are a little further away.
The main cities of Toulouse (1 hr 15 min) and Bordeaux (1 hr 30 min) offer guests the chance to immerse themselves in French city culture, with Toulouse famed for food and aerospace, and Bordeaux the wine centre of the world.
Cahors, around 40km away, is the gateway to the limestone landscape of the Causse de Quercy, with noted caves at Pech Merle, or a little further north the internationally known Lascaux cave system with a new visitor centre late in 2016.Other attractions in this area include the valley village of St Cirq La Popie and the historic and religious centre at Rocamadour, both in spectacular steep sided settings.
A little further to the south is the impressive Aveyron Gorge with delightful villages such as St Antonin Noble Val and Cordes sur Ciel to visit. The limestone landscape boasts a myriad of historic and natural attractions for guests to explore.
One 'must visit' attraction for most guests is the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Abbey & Cloisters at Moissac, dating from the 11th century. Combining this with the rose coloured brickwork and interesting architecture of Montauban a little further south make a very interesting day trip.
From Other guests
"It was great to have a choice of terraces for outside sitting. One raised with a view over the gardens and pool as well as more distance views towards the local town. The second terrace was on the other side of the property looking over an orchard, good for getting out of the sun during the middle of the day. All very pleasant. Inside the kitchen was much larger than in most of the gites we have stayed in. There was also plenty of inside space with a separate lounge room and large dining room. For a two person gite it has acres of space. We chose the gite as a base for walking and there are several well marked routes close by. These often start in old villages that are worth visiting for atmosphere and their range of restaurants."
"A lovely spacious and comfortable Gite owned by charming and helpful Scottish hosts Alan and Kate."
"This is an absolutely lovely gite which is very well appointed and spacious with lots of character in a very quiet , peaceful rural location. It has a large Kitchen with everything you need, a spacious dining room and downstairs bedroom with en-suite shower room. The sitting room is upstairs which also has double doors leading off to the sun terrace which is a lovely area to catch the last of the days sun with lovely views of the countryside or sit in the evening and stargaze. Alan and Kate were wonderful friendly hosts who were on hand if you needed anything but also very discreet. The pool area is a beautiful quiet area to relax in the wonderful sunshine and the pool very welcoming to “cool off “ in. "
