Around the area...

aveyronsmSet in very quiet countryside, there are spectacular natural features nearby, with the Aveyron Gorge offering the adventurous canoeing, climbing and top grade hiking. There are also many quiet country villages with rich histories to explore, three of the most notable being Bruniquel, St Antonin Noble Val and Cordes sur Ciel. A little further to the north is St Cirq Lapopie on the side of the gorge of the River Lot, and the large town of Cahors is a little downstream from there.

Most villages have a market at least one day a week, and few visitors can resist the opportunity to at least view the incredible range of produce, most of it grown locally. The area is also rich in folk traditions with many events arranged throughout the year to reflect this rich rural heritage.

The Quercy area is famed for its food and drink, with high quality restaurants and wineries to be found throughout the area - and who can resist a boulangerie first thing in the morning?

Le Causse de Limogne is renowned for saffron production in summer, and truffle hunting in winter. The prehistoric dolmen and other monuments in its karst limestone landscape is a fascinating area to explore at the south western tip of the Massif Central.

The provincial towns of Rodez and Montauban are within easy driving distance, and the attractions of Toulouse, the regional capital are also easy to get to. Please see the Links page above for more information on what to do in this most beautiful of areas.

The Halcyon Leisure blog has a page on Les Causses de Quercy, of which Le Causse de Limogne is part. Read it HERE
