Barreau is in an enviable private position overlooking stunning rolling countryside, and tucked amidst trees where the farm was first built nearly 300 years ago. Access is along a private road that leads nowhere else, and there are no near neighbours.
A skilful renovation of both buildings incorporating contemporary living into traditional buildings has been complemented with well chosen furnishings and decor which gives Barreau an air of quality throughout, and it makes a good place for groups of adults, or families with older children to stay at. With two buildings Barreau is also ideal for families holidaying together.
The property enjoys stunning views across the countryside, and has a sun room incorporated making this a place to watch all the seasons pass. Heated throughout, Barreau is suitable for off season occupation.

Arriving at Barreau there is an overwhelming feeling of space, aided by the low level of the buildings. There is ample parking space to get a number of vehicles in shaded places if required.
Entering The House, the first room is the Sun room with glorious views over the countryside, especially to the east. A cane conservatory suite enables you to sit in comfort and watch the countryside, even on the most inclement of days.
The next room is the Kitchen, with a substantial U-shaped run of dark wood units. The well equipped workspace includes an electric hob and oven, microwave, a fridge and a freezer, with plenty of units for storage and space to prepare large meals. A table is also in the Kitchen for less formal dining.
Along a broad passageway you come into the large Dining / Sitting room, with the two parts of the room being divided by a stone built breakfast bar. The Dining Table of heavy French oak is but one of the high quality pieces of French furniture throughout Barreau.
The Sitting area has sofas arranged around a Wood burner, and there is a curtained door to a small east facing conservatory, shaded during the heat of the day.
The smaller Double bedroom is off the passageway beside the Kitchen, with a contemporary bed and complementary furnishings and ornaments.
The Master bedroom with an ornately carved 19th century oak Double bed , and similar bedroom furniture is just opposite this bedroom, with a good sized dressing room beside.
The Bath Room and separate Shower Room are between the bedrooms, both with basin and wc.
Standing separate from the main house is The Barn, which has self contained sleeping accommodation for 4 people.

The Laundry area and Washing Machine are also located in The Barn to which all Guests at Barreau will have access.
There is a charming lack of formality to the 1.5ha / 4acres that surrounds Barreau, which adds to the special feeling of the place. Set amid trees, nature is never far away, and it is easy to imagine a keen naturalist never having to leave the place with all forms of life on hand. However, it should not be imagined that the surroundings are not maintained: As with the inside, maintenance is of a high order.
Around the House and Barn there are a few outdoor rooms, one of which is a beautifully built Cuisine d'été (Summer kitchen) with an excellent built in barbecue, tables and chairs. There is sufficient space to cook and eat under cover if required.
Another outbuiling houses a table tennis table, and there is Table Football in one of the bedrooms in The Barn. There is also a good selection of balls, frisbees and other things to entertain the family, coupled with plenty of safe level space in which to enjoy them.
The Swimming pool measures 8 x 4m, and is just a few yards away from the houses in a banked enclosure among the trees. There is a good terrace around the pool, and sun loungers and pool furniture are provided. The privacy is perfect,
The pool is salt water, and has Roman steps for easy access. There is a hard cover for security.

Beyond Barreau, it is a short drive to the charming and picturesque village of Roquecour, with commanding views across the countryside to the south: The village has a lively pub/restaurant, favoured by the expat community. There are also a couple of other restaurants and a general store in the picturesque village.
The larger village of Montaigu de Quercy is nearby, where there is a supermarket here for more extensive everyday shopping needs, and a good range of shops, restaurants and other essential services.
Exploring the countryside of this area is a delight, with vineyards, orchards, nut groves, vegetables and other crops growing in the fields alongside more common wheat and barley. Many of the villages nearby were historically fortified hill villages, known as Bastides, and they have retained their medieval battlements and medieval buildings, each with their own character. Tournon d'Agenais, Montaigu de Quercy, Lauzerte and Beauville are but a few of them. Villages and towns also have their markets, with the freshest of produce available somewhere in the locality most days of the week: A current list of the markets along with location maps will be found in The Area menu at the top of this page.
For the more active, the River Lot is close by, with activities to be found wherever the river can be accessed, and there is a wealth of countryside to be explored by foot and by bicycle along quiet country lanes.
